Training Opportunity on 10/27/23 with the University at Buffalo & Horizon

Jennifer Cervi headshotAre you interested in learning about co-occurring disorders and the risk factors for suicide and accidental overdoses? We’re excited to share that Horizon’s Clinical Director of Integrated Services, Jennifer Cervi, is instructing a training at the University of Buffalo on Friday, October 27th, 2023.

The training, “Overdose and Suicide: Co-occurrence, Risks, and Interventions,” focuses on using a trauma-informed lens to educate and provide professionals with strategies and coping skills for helping patients struggling with mental health and substance use disorders. The training also centers on harm reduction, support and coping skills for counselors and clinicians, safety measures, and more.

Jennifer Cervi has had years of first-hand experience with patients dealing with both mental health and substance use challenges. Based on her experience, the training focuses on these main learning objectives:

  1. Recognize risk factors for suicide and accidental overdose.
  2. Create effective and collaborative safety plans to address lethality and overdose risk.
  3. Employ harm reduction strategies with individuals using substances, empowering PWUD (people who use drugs) to make informed decisions for safer use.
  4. Identify ways to cope with patient loss related to suicide or accidental overdose.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for this training. Click here to find out more about the credit hours available.

The training will take place at the University at Buffalo, South Campus, 214 Parker Hall on Friday, October 27th, 2023 from 9am to 4pm.
