Meet therapist Megan! Megan has worked in the counseling field for over 15 years, the last 11 of those being with Horizon. As a Senior Counselor with Horizon Therapy Associates, Megan makes an impact on our community daily. Below, learn more about Megan, her specialties, and the impact she makes in her career each day.
What is the most impactful part of your job?
I don’t think I can pick just one thing that feels the most impactful. Instead, it’s more about all the “little” things. I love being able to see a family grow closer together – sharing laughs, or a new mom growing more confident in raising her baby. I love seeing patients overcome challenges that they didn’t think they would be able to or develop a stronger sense of self-worth and quality of life. Therapy is not a linear process, so it’s important to recognize and celebrate each of the “small” victories because they really aren’t small at all!
What are some areas of expertise you would like the community to know you provide?
I want patients to walk away from therapy feeling like they got something out of it. With that being said, I don’t believe that what works for one person is always going to work for the next. When working with patients, I use a combination of different therapies based on individual circumstances and need. Some of these may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, and more.
What are your specialties?
I have experience working with both addiction and mental health disorders over the course of my career. I currently specialize in working with pregnant and postpartum individuals to assess and manage postpartum anxiety and depression symptoms. I also do a lot of work with couples and families such as working to improve communication, conflict resolution skills, navigating healthy boundaries, and codependency issues.
