Meet Angela! Angela joined the Horizon team in 2013 as a part-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Her goal at the time was to help Horizon grow in the specialty area of Perinatal/Reproductive Psychiatry. During this time, she also maintained her part-time position at Audubon Women’s Medical as an OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner. In 2020, Angela became a full-time employee when Horizon set up a satellite office at Audubon Women’s medical. In her over 10 years at Horizon, Angela has had many opportunities for growth.
What kinds of trainings/ad hoc committees/ workgroups have you been a part of that have supported your growth?
In 2015, my Horizon teammates started a Women’s Mental Health Task Force to bring awareness to the specialized mental health needs of the perinatal population. In relation to this task force, I initiated integrated care by starting a Horizon satellite office out of a local OB/GYN provider to offer mental health assessments and treatment to women referred from the OB/GYN practice. One of the things the task force developed was a training that we now provide to Horizon employees who are interested in working with this population. I am one of the presenters at this bi-annual training.
I also have had opportunities to participate in other task groups that were developed to help improve work-life balance. Additionally, I have presented about Reproductive Psychiatry to my Horizon Psychiatric Prescriber peers at our monthly meetings.
The mentoring program here at Horizon has been another opportunity that I have enjoyed. I enjoy teaching and training our newly hired providers and helping them develop. All these opportunities have been important to my growth at Horizon.
Can you speak to the mentorship relationships you’ve developed over the years and how these have helped you grow as a leader?
I have had numerous mentors over the years that have helped me develop clinically, but also develop my leadership at the company. I have always been not only welcomed, but also encouraged, to take on leadership opportunities within the company. I have developed strong working relationships with both my clinical and non-clinical team to collaborate on ideas and development to continue to provide excellent care to our patients.
Do you have any goals for further growth within your role at Horizon?
I am grateful that I feel I will always continue to grow here at Horizon. One of my goals is to continue to grow and develop Horizon’s Perinatal Program. I also would like to contribute and grow our mentor program, our workflow, and processes.
What would you say to someone who may be interested in growing in their career with Horizon?
Personal and professional growth is always supported and encouraged at Horizon. There are countless opportunities to develop and expand one’s role and involvement in supporting the overall mission of the organization. Horizon has always promoted growth and opportunity for its team members and will continue to do so.
