National Infertility Awareness Week

National Infertility Awareness WeekApril 23rd-29th, 2023 is National Infertility Awareness Week (NIAW). During NIAW, we encourage people to break the silence surrounding infertility struggles and share their stories. NIAW also seeks to establish support systems for those experiencing infertility by creating a connected community and expanding access to care and coverage needed.

Infertility is a struggle that does not discriminate by race, sexuality, economic status, or religion. There are many misconceptions around infertility as well, which only make the fight for understanding and receiving aid more difficult. By extending our knowledge of NIAW and infertility, we can emphasize the importance of infertility coverage and acceptance.

Did you know?

  •  Infertility affects about 1 in 8 people.
  • 63% of LGBTQ+ Millennial couples considering expanding their families may need to use ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology).
  • ART was successful in producing 2.1% of single infants and 10.6% of multiples (twins, triplets, etc.) born in the United States in 2019.
  • Only 19 states require insurance carriers to provide fertility benefits, which means many people pay out-of-pocket for expensive infertility treatments.

How to observe NIAW:

  • Wear orange to show solidarity with National Infertility Awareness Week. Orange was chosen to represent NIAW because it promotes wellness, compassion, passion, and warmth.
  • Donate to help families struggling with infertility to get access to information, support, and options.
  • Support NIAW on social media by sharing information and using hashtags like #NationalInfertilityAwarenessWeek.
