Sarah began her career as a Vocational Specialist within Horizon’s Vocational Program in 2004. In the time since, Sarah has served as a Vocational Program Manager, Special Projects Director, and now serves as our Corporate Director of Administrative Operations and HEART Coach. Through these roles, Sarah has learned a lot about herself and Horizon’s goals in our community. Learn more about Sarah’s story below!
What kinds of trainings/ad hoc committees/workgroups have you been a part of that have supported your growth?
In my time at Horizon, I have engaged in a wide range of trainings, work groups, and committees to broaden my knowledge and support my development. Horizon has been committed to seeing me grow and advance throughout the company. Some committees and trainings I have been a part of include Bronze and Gold Level Leadership, HEART/Patient Experience Committee, and Improving Technology Work Groups. I attended these trainings and groups with the goal of improving the ease of access and treatment for our patients and improving the work-life balance of our staff.
Can you speak to the mentorship relationships you’ve developed over the years and how these have helped you grow as a leader?
Horizon’s Senior Leadership team is extremely receptive and available to their teams. They want you to advance, take risks, and challenge the status quo. I’ve been working with my current supervisor, Michelle, for about 15 years. I’ve learned so much about people, business, and the culture Horizon has instilled in all of us. Without my supervisor’s support, feedback, and ability to challenge me, I would not be where I am today. In addition to Michelle, other members of the Senior Leadership team have assisted in mentoring and supporting me and many others in taking the next steps in our careers.
Do you have any goals for further growth within your role at Horizon?
Yes, I am always trying to learn more about our industry and grow as a professional. I want to continue to develop and find better, more effective ways to support our community and our dedicated team of employees.
What would you say to someone who may be interested in growing in their career with Horizon?
Step outside of your comfort zone, speak up, and challenge the status quo. Our industry and community are constantly changing, and Horizon appreciates and respects the different viewpoints of valued team members.
