The Good Climb is a 5-hour endurance challenge designed to push your mental and physical strengths to the next level, all while having fun. With each trip up the mountain, you will gain confidence in your ability to endure new challenges in life.

When and where is it?

August 6th, 2022 from 9am-2pm at Holimont Ski Club in Ellicottville, NY.

Who can participate?

Individuals of all physical capabilities can be a part of the challenge. If you have the desire to find strength, gain confidence, and build grit, this is the endurance challenge for you!

What’s the motivation behind the event?

With over 20 years of experience in endurance sports and through working with young adults as the Canisius High School wrestling coach, John Baldwin has a passion for understanding the connection between mental endurance and physical strength. He also feels there is always more we can and should be doing to make those in our community aware of the behavioral health resources and supports available to them.

When explaining the relationship between physical activity and mental health, John states,

“Think about your body. When you engage in physical activity, such as lifting weights, you’re putting a stress on your body that makes you stronger in the end. We often think of stress as a bad thing, when it doesn’t always have to be. If you’re willing to take yourself out of your comfort zone – whether it be physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually – you need to put a stress upon yourself in order to make yourself stronger.”

This relationship John describes was the driving force behind the development of The Good Climb Endurance Challenge. It presents an opportunity for individuals to improve their physical and mental endurance, all while raising awareness around the importance taking care of your mental health and well-being.

What about the proceeds from the event?

Horizon has been selected as the charity of choice for this year’s event. All proceeds will be donated to our organization in an effort to show continued encouragement of reaching out for help for those who face behavioral health challenges in our community.

We are beyond grateful for the ongoing support of our community partners, including The Revelas Family Foundation, who is assisting in making The Good Climb a successful event.

Together, we can reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and foster an environment where our challenges are viewed as aspects of our lives that develop strengths, not weaknesses.
