Drinking, Driving and Holiday Parties – A Recipe for Disaster

Holiday parties, alcohol and nasty weather conditions are a deadly mix this time of year.  If you think you can knock down “just a few” and get behind the wheel – think again.

Just look at these scary statistics:

  • Alcohol-impaired drivers cause an average of 54 fatal drunk driving accidents per day over the New Year’s holiday period alone (This is 66% higher than the daily number for the rest of the year.)
  • Over the Christmas holiday, impaired drivers cause 45 fatalities per day.
  • The number of people charged with drinking and driving offenses during the holidays in 2011 more than doubled from the previous year. (The Huffington Post)

The truth is that every single drunk driving fatality can be prevented.

What’s the number one way to stay safe this holiday season?  Designate a driver—period.

And if you have too much to drink you can always call a friend, a cab or Designated Drivers of Buffalo, who will send two uniformed drivers to drive you and your car home safely.

Wishing you a happy and safe holiday season from all of us at Horizon Health Services.
