Join Horizon at The Good Climb Endurance Challenge!

Three People on a chair lift.

The Good Climb is a five-hour endurance challenge in Ellicottville, NY that pushes its participants out of their comfort zones. With three different challenge levels of courses, athletes of all experiences and skills are welcome to participate!

Our mental health and physical health are often impacted by each other, which reminds us of the importance caring for the mind-body relationship. The Good Climb seeks to spread this message to our community through their unique event. We’re grateful to share that the proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Horizon’s Teen Mental Health Program.

Our Teen Mental Health Program has so far:

  • Partnered with 18 schools across 3 counties in WNY.
  • Provided over 150 presentations.
  • Presented to over 30,000 students, faculty, staff, and family members.

Register to join us and support our Teen Mental Health Program on Saturday, July, 27, 2024 at the HoliMont Ski Resort in Ellicottville for The Good Climb! We asked some of our team members who participated in the past for their thoughts on the event. Read below to see what they said!

What was your experience participating in The Good Climb?

“The Good Climb has been an amazing experience for me the last couple of years. In completing the Good Climb, I agreed to climb up a mountain repeatedly, which I never thought I would so willingly do. I pushed myself this past year to identify a focus, and it really helps to make it through the moments of struggle when you have a clear intention throughout the climb. The Good Climb is not only a great way to challenge yourself to push your comfort zone, but also an amazing way to connect with others and find ways to motivate each other forward. 10 out of 10, will do again!”

– Shacarah Henry, Director of Health Equity & Impact

“I was happy to be a part of the Horizon Health Services team and participate in The Good Climb two years in a row! I believe physical health has a direct correlation to mental health, and this challenge spoke volumes to the importance of the connection between the two. Sometimes, you have to push yourself both mentally and physically to overcome challenges and hurdles in your life. The Good Climb event pushed me to new levels and gave me a new sense of pride and accomplishment. I live by the saying ‘If your body feels better, so does your mind.’ I love to see events that showcase the importance of both physical and mental health, and The Good Climb did just that! It was so much fun to complete the challenge with like-minded people who helped motivate and cheer you on the whole way.”
– Jordan Perna, Horizon Village Wellness Coordinator

“Nature and being active have always been two very important pieces of my self-care and my mental well-being. When presented with the opportunity to combine these and participate in an event that promotes just that, I jumped at the opportunity. Now having participated for two years, I can say the experience is unmatched and worth every step of the climb!
Whether you go up the hill one time or ten, each step gives you a chance to challenge yourself, to push past self-doubt and to be open to what you can accomplish – both physically and mentally. You set your own goal but you’re supported by the crew running the event and all of the participants who cheer each other on whether next to you on the hill or from above as they take the chair lift down to do it all over again.
It is an incredible opportunity to find your own individual strength and the strength of the community rallying around you. I encourage everyone to come see what it’s all about!”
– Katelyn Murray, Clinical and Health Information Systems Strategist
