What is your “why” for working at Horizon?
I’ve had the privilege of working alongside dedicated colleagues who truly care about mental health and substance use treatment and serving individuals who are seeking real change in their lives. Knowing that the work we do helps people create a better life for themselves is what keeps me motivated and proud to be part of the Horizon team every day.
What opportunities has Horizon provided you that has helped you grow in your career?
Horizon has always allowed me to explore my interests. I’ve worked on small projects such as developing training courses on enhancing group skills or solution-focused trainings, as well as larger projects with local treatment courts. Throughout my time at Horizon, I’ve been fortunate to have supervisors who gave me the freedom to pursue these projects while offering guidance and support when needed.
How do you prioritize your wellbeing while also growing and developing in your career?
I manage to balance self-care by ensuring I always have hobbies I pursue outside of work. Having hobbies I’m passionate about allows me to mentally turn off at the end of the workday and tune into something else. This also makes compartmentalizing incredibly easy. Some of my hobbies are pottery, cycling, and reading. I find doing these things after work allows me to be more focused the next day.
What would you say to someone who might be interested in growing their career with Horizon?
I’d tell them to do it. Horizon is a great organization with tons of great staff with so much knowledge about the behavioral health field, and lots of great perks. There’s nothing to lose.
