Meet Lynlee! Lynlee began her career at Horizon in 2014 as a Substance Use Outpatient Counselor. Now as the Director of Medical Operations, she has worked to grow in her career throughout the years. What is your “why” for working at Horizon?
I have always known that my purpose in life was working with people. Social work and behavioral health are a path that I found later in my educational career and from the minute I started working in this field, I knew that this is what I was what I was meant to do. I consider it a privilege that our clients allow us to walk with them through their journey – if even for a short time. I never underestimate the vulnerability it takes to enter counseling and ask for help.
What opportunities has Horizon provided you that has helped you grow in your career?
Horizon has provided me with the ability to grow and expand my leadership skills. As the oldest of four kids, I always tended to be the loudest in the room, but Horizon has allowed me to grow and develop those skills into the ability to make a difference and be a part of a team. Trainings, workgroups, and mentoring have all assisted in developing me into the leader that I am today.
How do you prioritize your well-being while also growing and developing in your career?
As a social worker, well-being and self-care are paramount. We can’t do this work if we don’t take care of ourselves too.
Growing and developing my career has supplemented my well-being at Horizon. By being able to turn my attention towards my own areas of expertise and interest, it keeps my engagement within the work high and fuels my ongoing love for my job.
What would you say to someone who might be interested in growing their career with Horizon?
Within the behavioral health and social work world, there are a million different directions that you can take. Horizon offers you an opportunity to dip your toes into many of those different directions. You can gain experience in mental health, substance use, addiction medicine, psychiatric services, care coordination, quality assurance… the list goes on and on. Not sure what it is you want to do?
