Horizon Village

Coming soon: View our presentation

Horizon Village is a 50-bed intensive residential drug treatment program serving the eight counties of Western New York State (Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming). It is designed for chemically dependent adults 18 and older who have been unable to establish and maintain abstinence through outpatient or traditional inpatient treatment.

Horizon Village is licensed by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services and is a cost-effective alternative to hospital-based care.

Horizon Village provides opportunities for individuals to experience recovery while living in a unique, safe, therapeutic residential setting. Horizon Village provides innovative, person-centered treatment designed to offer hope for individuals in recovery.

Hope on the Horizon

We believe that recovery is possible. Individuals faced with addiction have the right to the highest-quality treatment. Comprehensive services, based on the highest professional standards, are conducted in a progressive and safe environment.

At Horizon Village, we integrate treatment, including focus on the medical, psychological, spiritual, cultural and environmental needs of the individual. Residential treatment is often a necessary step in initiating recovery and the development of an addiction-free lifestyle. Research indicates that individuals in recovery who are separated from their previous daily routine are more willing and able to fully participate in treatment programs.

A place to call home

Horizon Village is designed with our residents’ comfort and safety in mind. Located on three acres, our facility is a modern, one-story, handicapped-accessible building with 24 double-occupancy and two single-occupancy rooms located in two residential wings. Additional facilities include a dining hall and fitness center, gardens and picnic area, softball diamond and basketball court. Arrangements can be made for those residents who wish to attend religious worship services.

A caring approach

Residential treatment provides an opportunity for holistic recovery by providing person-centered treatment in an environment that empowers residents to make choices as they focus on improving all life-skill areas. The length of stay at the Village varies, depending on need. The average length of stay is approximately 80 days as residents participate in a comprehensive, individualized recovery program.

Horizon Village is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team representing the fields of medicine, social work, nursing, alcoholism and substance abuse counseling, family counseling, psychology, psychiatry and activities therapy. A financial case manager and Medicaid assistant are also available.

Our residents benefit from a 24/7 intensive and individualized recovery program.

Horizon Village offers several treatment components based on a rehabilitative model. Our program offers:

Break The Cycle

"Break the Cycle" is a short term, comprehensive intervention in a safe, drug-free environment, for individuals whose chemical dependency has reached a level of severity that interferes with their ability to benefit from outpatient treatment. Counseling interventions are focused on helping participants resolve their ambivalence and make progress toward recovery. The intervention is designed to be brief and comprehensive, with a variable length of stay depending on the individual’s illness and his or her response to treatment.

The treatment design meets the ASAM level III.5 criteria for Clinically Managed High-Intensity Residential Services. For more information about "Break The Cycle," click here.

Family Program at Horizon Village

The Family Program at Horizon Village addresses the needs of family and friends who have been affected by the chemical dependency of another, and is viewed as an integral part of treatment.

The overall design of the Family Program is to:

  1. Help families and friends understand and deal with chemical dependency as a disease process,
  2. Help families and friends understand the healthiest ways to provide help and support, and
  3. Help families and friends with basic listening, communication and problem-solving skills.

The Family Program addresses the following goals:

  • To increase motivation for recovery
  • To convey the “whole-family” message
  • To investigate family patterns that work against recovery
  • To prepare the family as to what to expect in early recovery
  • To encourage family members’ own long-term support

Family visits take place on Wednesday and Saturday of each week. Sessions with residents and family and/or significant others and the family counselor are available upon request. Special family events are planned approximately once per quarter.
