Continue reading to see some commonly asked questions about open access and what it entails!

What is open access?

Open access hours allow people in the community to walk in to start the counseling process when they are ready, rather than having to wait for a scheduled appointment.

What services are provided through Open Access?

Through open access, patients will be provided with mental health and substance use disorder appointments with trained clinicians. Patients can also be linked to psychiatry, medication-assisted treatment, Horizon’s Care Coordination and Peer Advocate programs, and more.

Can I bring a family member?

Absolutely! We encourage you to have support with you throughout your recovery journey. This might be a family member, a friend, or any other support you identify.

What can I expect when I arrive?

Our administrative team will take some initial information and get you set up to meet with a counselor as soon as one becomes available. During this initial appointment, a counselor will assess your immediate needs, history, symptoms, and goals.

What are the days and hours I can show up?

1376 Niagara Falls Boulevard Open Access Hours:

  • Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:15 AM – 11:00 AM
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:15 PM – 4:00 PM

699 Hertel-Elmwood Recovery Center Open Access Hours:

  • Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Do I need to call beforehand, or can I really just show up?

It is helpful to call our Patient Engagement Center ahead of time at 716-831-1800 to provide our team with your insurance information. However, if you have not done this, we will connect you with our Patient Engagement Center when you arrive.

Do I need to have insurance?

Our services are billed through insurance. If you do not have insurance, we will connect you with a Financial Resource Specialist to explore insurance eligibility and payment options.

Why is this an important service to offer?

Counseling is an important part of overall wellness. We want you to be able to access counseling on your timeline. Immediate access each day is the best way to connect our community members with the resources they need, right when they need them.

If you or a loved one is struggling, Horizon is here to help. Call us at 716-831-1800 to learn more.
