Break The Cycle

INTRODUCTION

“Break the Cycle” is a short term, comprehensive intervention in a safe, drug-free environment, for individuals whose chemical dependency has reached a level of severity that interferes with their ability to benefit from outpatient treatment.  Counseling interventions are focused on helping participants resolve their ambivalence and make progress toward recovery. The intervention is designed to be brief and comprehensive, with a variable length of stay depending on the individual’s illness and his or her response to treatment.

The treatment design meets the ASAM level III.5 criteria for Clinically Managed High-Intensity Residential Services.

PURPOSE

  Stabilization

  • Medical support and monitoring to assist participants in stabilizing
  • Continuous medical assessment

  Intervention

  • Family and/or significant other involvement
  • Individual and group counseling
  • Involvement of the referral source (court, employer, physician) as appropriate

  Linkage to Out Patient and Community-Based Supports

  • Orientation to self-help/community supports
  • Development of a realistic initial recovery plan that utilizes wellness, the effective use of community supports, and out patient treatment
  • Development of a new peer group supportive of recovery

CONSUMER PROFILE

  • Present deficits in functional skills that result in significant psychosocial and/or environmental problems, and
  • Have attempted outpatient treatment, but have been unable to significantly benefit due to the severity of their chemical dependency, and
  • Verbalize a desire to participate in an intensive treatment program.

PROGRAM INTERVENTIONS/SERVICES

  • Physical Exam (if none within 6 months)
  • Nursing Profile
  • Withdrawal Risk Assessment/Monitoring of vitals
  • Medication therapy/Medication monitoring
  • Acupuncture/Acupressure
  • Psychiatry
  • Group counseling
  • Family counseling – individual and multi-family
  • Linkage to community services and supports
